Chapters 18-23
Choice A: Most of the local people in Maycomb felt that it would be a disgrace for a black person to win in a dispute with any with a white person, so they took Bob Ewell's side. Have you ever been in a situation where someone took a side that they obviously knew was wrong? How did this make you feel?
I have been in a couple situations like the ones explained and have been on all different sides of them. It is a very complicated decision and I have seen many people choose the wrong side. It is very hard to choose and I can understand making a mistake but as long as you know its wrong and are sorry makes it a little bit better. There was a situation where my friend had to choose between his friend and a popular kid and him being the smart kid that he is picked his friend. He didn’t pick his friend because he is his friend; he picked him because he knew he was right.
There are many examples of this in the book. The biggest one being that Tom Robinson was found guilty. Another situation I thought was suspicious was Tom trying to be taken by a mob with Walter Cunningham. Walter wanted Tom out one day and then the next he was on the jury trying to help Tom. Another example in my life was when my friend took the side of a bully because he was scared of him. He knew it was wrong but he was scared and fear clouds your train of thought. He was obviously thinking wrong but at least he knew he was wrong. After that ended he was really sorry and the boy being picked on forgave him.

I think that if Scout’s mom were still alive it would have a great impact on their attitudes and how the book is playing out. If their mom were still alive the kids would be acting way different because Scout might act more like a girl because she would have had the feminine influence. Jem might be acting more trained because he wouldn’t act wild in front of his mother. They might not even have met dill because they would be more obedient and they wouldn’t have talk to a stranger. Most of all I think that they wouldn’t be messing with Boo Radley because they would listen to their mother and not annoy people.
Some more things are that they wouldn’t have found the stuff in the tree because they would know it probably wasn’t safe. I even think that Atticus would e acting different because he would still have a wife and wouldn’t be as lonely. He would be happier and he would control his kids. Then Alexandra wouldn’t have had to move in and the kids wouldn’t know it but they would be happier.
I think that still having a mother would have a great effect on the kids and they would have it better but worse. They would still have a mother but they wouldn’t have a life of adventure. They would be more obedient and less annoying to people but they wouldn’t be as happy. If Scout and Jem still had a mother they would be very, very different.

Chapters 13-15
Perspective: Atticus
I don’t know why Alexandra wanted to come stay with us. I think that kids will be kids for as long as they can. They shouldn’t have to grow up until they have to. I have to say Alexandra fit in very well. She made friends with almost the whole town. Though she had her opinions of some, most were still her friends. She had acquired the Maycomb personality. It would be almost impossible to extract it from her.
She had been here for about a week and that is when she got out of control. She suggested that we “let go” of Cal. She doesn’t know that Calpurnia is a part of this family and she can leave when she wants to. I can’t believe she would even suggest that. I am very mad at her and we are fighting. One night Dill turned up. Jem told me that Dill was hiding under Scout’s bed and he only emerged when he was almost hit with a broom. I told Dill that I had to tell his Aunt. I told him that he could eat whatever he likes because he hadn’t eaten since last night.
I was watching my son grow up right in front of me. He is maturing faster than I expected or that is how it seems. His senses are becoming infallible. I know there is still some kid in him though. I can just tell by the way he acts. He was losing his want to antagonize people. Heck came to the door the other day with some people from town. He said that they were moving Tom. I told him to keep him just one night. Then when I went to the jail that night I knew I was going to get hurt. A group of people came, and I knew they were going to, to get Tom. I stood up to them and I knew something bad was about to happen. I am so glad that Scout, Jem, and Dill showed up. They probably saved my life. I knew Mr. Underwood was there but I was still scared.

Chapters 10, 11, & 12
Perspective: Mrs. Dubose
Hello,
I knew those kids were bad. I screamed at them when they went into the town because children aren't supposed to do that alone. They say they have been doing it since they were little but I doubt that. It was on the way back when Jeremy Finch attacked my camellias. He took a baton and ruined them. At least he didn't pull them out from the roots. I told Jeremy and Jeans father about what happened. He assured me that he would apologize and regrow my camellias. This was the perfect time for me to start quitting morphine. I promised myself that I would quit before I died and I knew I had only months to live. I told Jeremy he has to read to me everyday for two hours for one month. I needed a distraction so I wouldn't be focused on the pain of quitting.
Jeremy came with his little sister, Jean, as I told him for one month. I knew he was debating everyday whether to come or not, yet he still showed up. I am glad he did because it was the only thing keeping me distracted. I went through my fits everyday. The kids probably thought that I was crazy. No one told them I was trying to quit. The first day that they showed up they pulled two chairs up to the left side of my bed. I told them to move to the right because it was easier for me to look that way. Jean was in a chair adjacent to Jeremy's chair. They probably got acquainted with my house after the third or fourth visit.
On the last day of their reading their dad came in and told them to extend for a week because I asked. The reading was really helping take my mind off things. Jeremy looked perplexed when his father said that, I am just glad he agreed. After the last day of reading the children were so happy. A couple days later their father came to my house to get something from me while I was alive. That was the day I died. I entrusted Atticus with my package. I hope that he gave it to Jeremy. I am glad that I kept my promise to myself.

Chapters 8-9
Perspective of Atticus
Hello,
I think that my life is passing by too quick. My little daughter is growing up so fast right in front of my eyes. Also my son is in 7th grade already. I remember when he was in 2nd like my daughter. Now I have a court case where I have to defend a negro. This is going to be a hard case because everyone hates Negros here in Maycomb. Cecil Jacobs is one of the people that has a big hate for Negros. He always torments them and his tyranny against them is something I don't like to comment on. I myself am fine with Negros around me. That is why I decided to defend tom Robinson. I feel that my decision could be a bit more quibbling. Negros shouldn't be treated how they are because they are humans just like us. Now that I have taken this case every keeps calling me a nigger-lover. I am trying my best to evade these people but they are everywhere. Almost everyone in town is calling me that name. I am trying to be a chameleon and avoid Cecil Jacobs. Also I want my children to avoid him to so they don't have a bad influence.
I want my kids to stop annoying Boo and realize that he is a nice person, after all he gave my daughter a blanket while she was freezing. He isn't mean or scary and he won't kill anyone. The stories of him are mostly fake. The reason he is probably scared is because everyone is scared of him. He thinks if he comes out he will be avoided and tormented.

Chapters 4-7
Perspective of Jem
School was dragging along slowly. The summer was on its way and that meant Dill was coming back. One strange thing was that Scout kept finding stuff in this tree on the Radley’s yard. There was a hole in the tree and someone kept putting stuff there. First scout found some gum that I thought could be poisonous. At first I didn’t believe she found it in a tree, then on the last day of school we were walking home and she pointed out the tree to tell me that’s where she found the chewing gum and there was something else in it. I pulled it out and we both ran to our porch. We sat down and we opened the little box covered with chewing gum wrappers. We were both surprised at the contents of the box. There were two polished pennies in there. We both didn’t know what to do whether to keep them or to show them around school, when it started again, to see if it was anybody’s. Two days after we found the box Dill came. We were going to play Tom and Sam and Dick but everyone was tired of that so we didn’t know what to play. Then scout asked me to make up another play. She doesn’t realize that I am really tired of making them up. Then we decided to roll in the tire. I didn’t know that Jem was mad at me for contradicting him on his explanation of Hot Steams so when he pushed me I could tell. He pushed me a bit hard and I didn’t know where I had landed. I lifted my head up and there I was in the Radley’s yard. I was so scared that I got up and jolted out of the yard not even bothering to get the tire. Jem had to get it because he wasn’t afraid, or so he said.

Chapters 1-3
Perspective of Scout
When we met Dill is when it all started. He was weird at first but we grew to like him. He dared Jem, my brother, to draw Mr. Radley out of his house. Jem was too afraid to knock on the door so they came to a compromise, Jem only had to touch the house. He was so scared at first but he knew he needed to persevere. I didn’t think that Jem would do that but obviously he condescended. That house is one of the scariest things I have ever seen. There are so many malevolent vibes coming from it. Every time I walk by to get to school the house scares me even more especially after Jem touched it. At my first day of school my new teacher was being mean to me. Just because I knew how to read she whipped me. She said that it was her job to teach me not my dads. She also offered Walter Cunningham a quarter, which he had probably never seen before. He came from a poor family that repays debts with food from their farm. That is the reason why he refused to take the quarter from her. When lunch finally arrived I was so happy. Jem invited Walter Cunningham over to our house for lunch. When he started eating he poured molasses all over his plated and I asked what he was doing. He got embarrassed and I got a screaming. I didn’t know that people eat that way. I felt that I didn’t deserve the screaming because it was a simple mistake. When we got back to school after lunch one of the Ewells showed up to fill their reputation of coming to school for only the first day. When Ms. Caroline saw him she was irked. She was so scared of a small cootie. Finally when the day was over my brother and I saw my dad coming home from his job. When my dad, Atticus Finch, got in the house he grabbed the paper and we went outside. We began to read and I said I couldn’t otherwise my teacher would come after him. I told him that I don’t want to go to school tomorrow or ever again. He said we could read if you go to school and keep it a secret. I said yes because I love reading with my dad.

What is confusing in this book? Why?
What I found confusing in the past chapters is that Nikolei Drevin is actually a bad guy. He seemed like a nice, rich guy but his plans are beyond belief. He was the creator of Force Three and he plans to take down Ark Angel. He will pin the blame on them and get away clean. I don’t fully understand why he is taking Ark Angel down but I do know that he plans to have it land on the Pentagon. He said that he would be taking Ark Angel down for monetary purposes because the project is insured. But what mostly confused me is that Nikolei planned to have his own sons finger cut off. One other thing that is confusing is that he already spent billions of dollars on the Ark Angel project. He said that he wanted to recover some of the money because this project was taking more time because of delays thus he is spending more money.
Which character would you like (or not like) to be your friend? Why?
I think that if I wanted anyone to be my friend it would probably be Alex. I know that he would always have my back and protect me from any danger but he would be gone most of the time. There is also Paul Drevin. He seems nice and I can relate to him with the asthma. He seems to be a bit spoiled but he is all in all a nice kid. If I had to pick one of the two it would probably be Alex because Paul seems to be a bit unsocial and keeps to himself. Alex is also the coolest character in the book. One person I would not like to be my friend is obviously Nikolei Drevin. He is the villain and he seems like a nice guy but he is involved with the Chinese Triads, the Russian Mafiya, and several other criminal organizations. He’s not the type of friend you want.

Question 1.
Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?
Response 1.
I think that I would want to be like Alex Rider. Even though he gets in danger a lot it would be cool to be a spy for MI-6. Also he gets to travel around the world and help people. I would say that everything except for the danger interests me because I like adventure. I think that I would like his job more than to have his physical appearance and personality. Even though he is a nice boy that likes to help people, I’d rather be me. He is one of the coolest kids in his school but no one knows it because he has to keep the spy job secret.
Question 2.
What has surprised you in the book? Why?
Response 2.
I was surprised when a couple of Force Three members showed up at Nikolei Drevin’s soccer match. He owned one of the teams that were playing so he went there. At the end of the chapter it didn’t surprise me that Force Three killed the star player of Nikolei’s team. Adam, the star player, was having a bad game and another thing that surprised me was that he was told to throw the game. Alex was there at that game with Nikolei. Unfortunately Paul Drevin had an asthma attack the night before so he couldn’t be there. Overall this book has a lot in store and I can’t wait to keep reading.

Question 1.
What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?
Response 1.
I think that Alex Rider didn’t have to save Paul Drevin because he wasn’t involved. It was a great act of kindness because Alex was kidnapped, tortured, and had to escape a fire. He helped a boy who he didn’t know because he has a nice soul. I think he was right to do that because the boy was helpless and recovering from appendicitis. He took out three professional criminals and in the end was taken.
Question 2.
What other character(s) beside the main character is really important to the story? How and why?
Response 2.
I think that Paul Drevin is also one of the other important characters because he is an intended target of Force Three and Alex is hanging out with him. Force Three are eco terrorists that would kill everyone to save the planet. If Alex has another run in with them they will not underestimate him. Also I feel that Paul’s dad will play a big role in this book because he is the creator of Ark Angel, the first space hotel. I feel like that because the book is titled Ark Angel. The last character that I think will play a big role is Kaspar. He is the head of Force Three and is a bit of a fanatic. He had his whole head shaved and the globe tattooed on it.

I am going to read the book Ark Angel by Anthony Horowitz because I feel that it will be a good book. I have read most of the Alex Rider series and I find them interesting because I like action/adventure genre books. I think that this is where I left off in the series and it would be a great way to pick it back up. Also Anthony Horowitz is a great author and he really keeps you flipping the page.
