Chapter 12: Cry of the Hunters
My title: Perfect Timing
Perspective: Ralph
The first place I hid was in the thicket. I was so scared when they stared throwing rocks down at me. Then they set the thicket on fire with Piggy's glasses and drove me out of the thicket. They saw me run away and I heard a faint ululation in the distance. I am so grateful that Samneric gave me meat. I'm glad they didn't try to diddle me and give away my position. I cant believe Jack forced Samneric onto his tribe. He is so mean. Roger even had a two sided sharpened spear for my head. I am glad they didn't catch me. The thicket fire flushed me out of hiding because the fire spread around everywhere. I saw the naval officer dressed in drill. It was the best sight ever. Jack followed behind me to the beach and the naval officer saw his painted appearance. When Percival tried to remember his name he couldn't. He had already said it too many times and got tired of his name. I think Jack should take full responsibility because if he had listened to everything I said and stayed with the group none of this would have happened. The naval officer was so disappointed in us because he had learned that two people had died on this island.

Chapter 11
1. In the beginning of the chapter, what does Piggy tell Ralph to do with the conch?
Piggy tells Ralph to call an assembly so that the hunters will come out.
2. What reason will Piggy give Jack for the return of his glasses?
Piggy was going to ask for them back nicely telling Jack that he (Piggy) knew that Jack was better than him and that he needed his glasses back.
3. What does Ralph declare their appearance will be when they approach Jack?
He wants to be civilized and look nice. He wanted to be hygienic.
4. Who challenges the boys on their approach to Castle Rock?
Roger started to throw stones at them and told them to get away.
5. When Jack appears, what has he been doing?
He was out in the forest hunting.
6. What does Ralph call Jack that provokes a fight?
He calls Jack a thief because he stole Piggy’s glasses.
7. What happens to Samneric after the fight?
They are forced to join Jacks tribe and be a hunter.
8. What is Roger doing during Piggy’s plea for a return to decency?
He starts to throw rocks at him.
9. Write a STRONG PARAGRAPH about who is responsible for Piggy’s death and why.
I believe that Roger is responsible for Piggy’s death because he is the one that pushed the great rock off the cliff. Roger was delirious and didn’t know what he was doing but he did it and that’s all that matters. All Piggy wanted was his glasses back, he was trying to be civilized but Roger ended his life truculently. It was no accident because he put all of his weight into it and the rock fell down onto Piggy, who was holding the talisman trying to restore order. There was a cessation of talking as Piggy fell. He is responsible for murder in the first degree and should be punished. Jack didn’t kill Piggy, Roger did.

Chapter 10
Simon’s Ghost
I can’t believe that Piggy thinks my death was an accident. He said that it was dark and no one knew who I was. I even told them about the dead pilot but they ran too fast and killed me thinking I was the beast. There is no beast; it’s only the combination of fear and imagination. For the hunters there is also bloodlust. They already had their spears through my body. I hope that Ralph finds a way to get off this island and get the hunters thrown in jail. They deserve it they murdered me. Piggy and Ralph were at the feast but all they did is watch. I don’t think they knew who I was. Piggy can barely see so I didn’t expect him to know who I was.
Also I was watching Jack beat Wilfred and tie him up for no reason. He made some weird rules and if you disobey them you will get beaten. Wilfred didn’t do anything and he still beat him. They also talked about when they killed me. They said that I was the beast in disguise. How dumb can you get? Jack tried to tell everyone in his tribe that I was the beast. That it was good to get rid of the beast; everyone knew that I wasn’t the beast. Jack is a killer.
Then Jack planned to steal Piggy’s glasses because they needed fire to cook the meat. He planned with Maurice and Roger to come in the night and steal the glasses. They then went and attacked Ralph’s tribe in the middle of the night when they were defenseless. I can’t believe that they would do that. Afterwards I heard Ralph saying that he would have given them fire if they asked. He also said they are becoming more and more like savages. They are losing all sense of manner and have no hope of being rescued. Another thing that surprises me is how jack is functioning after murdering someone.

Lord of The Flies
Chapter 8: Gift for the Darkness
Scene 2
The most scary scene in the book was when Jack beheaded the pig and put the head on a stick. He took his hunting knife and he sliced little by little the pigs neck. Jack separated the pig and had some hunters take the body for the meat. Then he had Roger sharpen a spear at both ends and stuck one end into the ground. Jack then lifted the pigs head and put it on the stick. A bunch of flies gathered around it and it became the Lord of The Flies. They left the gift for the beast so that the beast wouldn't hunt them. Jack believed that if you give the beast food then it would not take care of them. What they had not know was that in fact that Simon was watching them. Later the pigs head started talking to Simon. This was the scariest chapter of any book I ever read. And I read a lot of books.
I think that Jack Merridew killed Simon. If he hadn't split up from the group nothing would have gone wrong. Not only this he lead and told the group to kill the “beast” which was as we know Simon. He also made the group very exited after the killing of the pig.
“Him! Him!”
The circle became a horseshoe. A thing was crawling out of the forest.
This shows that Jack in fact murdered Simon. This leads to the fact that everyone has a dark side, some more than others.

Chapter Title: Shadows And Tall Trees
My Title: Slaying A Pig
Perspective: Jack
Wow I can’t believe Ralph got so excited over hunting when he hates it. That game we played where Robert was pretending to be a pig was so fun, almost as fun as rugger. We jabbed him with the dull end of our spears and he pretended to die. Everyone licked their lips at Robert. I happened to lick off a layer of brine. Robert laughed at us licking our lips. Everyone was so psyched while the game was going on but after that the mood calmed down a bit. Jack suggested that they should use the littluns in Roberts place and actually kill them. He said they were useless because all they do is eat, sleep, and poop wherever they feel like it. I think that this might lead to neglect and attack. It seems that Jack doesn't like the littluns. All the boys are convinced there is a beast because they saw the dead pilot. Their imagination took over and they thought that the dead pilot was the beast with wings, claws, and teeth. Even though Ralph likes hunting now he is still a big jerk. He always has a dun expression on and he is too focused on getting rescued. He is impervious to other people’s ideas. He doesn't even have control over his group. All he wants to do is to go back to the moors where he lived. I can't even talk it over with him because he doesn't listen to anyone. He thinks that he is still the chief but we all drifted away and he still doesn't get it. I think that I should have been leader. If I was I would have gotten our priorities straight. Hunting is our number one priority. Also I wouldn’t have had stupid rules like you have to have the conch to speak. Everyone would probably listen to me and not ignore me like they do to Ralph.

Chapter Title: Beast From Air
My Title: There Is No Beast
Perspective: Simon
What sign comes down from the grown up world?
The so-called sign is a dead aviator. Everyone thinks that it is a sign but a dead person is a weird sign. I don’t think it is a sign and no one else should but their imagination is taking over their perception of reality.
Why aren’t the boys aware of it?
Ralph and Jack aren’t aware because they are always embroiled. Jack is always waxy; he is always out to get someone. They can’t take one minute to see what’s happening instead of arguing. Also Piggy doesn’t realize because he is caught up in trying to get his point through.
Why are Sam ‘n Eric so terrified?
Mutinously they told us that they are the ones who first saw the “beast” which was the dead pilot. Their imagination took over and they thought he was a beast when he was hanging from his parachute.
How do Sam ‘n Eric describe the beast?
They think that he had wings and claws and fangs. They said he looked very scary but they couldn’t really see because it was dark. I think all their talk is a bunch of guano. They are just making it up.
What is the attitude of the boys when going off to look for the beast?
Jack got way too excited when we went to look for the beast. He really wants to kill it but I think he also wants to feel the power of killing. He is getting way to caught up in hunting and forgetting about real life back home. He doesn’t even want to be rescued.
Is there really a beast? How do you know?
I don’t think there is a beast because there are no such things as beasts. I think that is just everyone’s imagination is being toyed with by themselves. They all see what they want to see. The beast isn’t real but everyone thinks it is.
What do you think the actual beast that all of the boys are so afraid of really is?
I think that they are just scared of never being rescued. Also I think they are afraid of the savages inside them, especially Jack.
These people are getting carried away and they forget about trying to get rescued. The stay on this island feels interminable.

Chapter Title: Beast From Water
My Title: Jack Is Not Worth It
Perspective: Piggy
Jack is so mean. He is ludicrous, he needs be nicer and he needs to learn that he is not always right. He is losing all thought of decorum. At the assembly Ralph called he interrupted me so much when I had the conch. Ralph really wanted to call the assembly because he felt his authority was challenged even though he is the chief. Ralph has a good effigy of chieftainship. He felt no one was listening to him. Everyone didn’t follow the rules like they went to the bathroom wherever they liked instead of the designated spot. Also Jack let the fire go out when it was his job to keep it going. We had a chance at being rescued by the ship that Ralph saw in the distance. I think Jack is a stupid fool for letting the fire go out and going to hunt. It seems like he doesn’t want to be rescued. He is turning into a savage, all he can think about is hunting. Also everyone needs to go to the designated spot to go to the bathroom or all our food and shelter will be contaminated. Ralph and Jack need to stop fighting otherwise there will be war. We all have already split into groups. There is Ralph’s side and Jacks side. Simon, who is on Ralph’s side, always recited incantations to pray that he will be rescued. Praying won’t do any good. What we need is a miracle Even though there is still the beast to worry about we are fighting. All the littluns are scared in their sleep because of the beast. While they were sleeping lamentation would creep out of them. Even Percival was scared of the beast. He even thinks that it might be a beast from water. I think that the dirtiest thing about human nature is hatred and lust for power. Those traits are the worst traits ever. There are no words to describe them. If I were leader I would enforce more laws and make consequences for breaking them. Ralph isn’t too strict but he needs to be. I would make the group obey and we will get rescued faster.

Chapter Title: Painted Faces and Long Hair
My Title: Jack The Hopeless
Perspective: Ralph
Dear Diary,
Life on the island is really annoying me now. No one sees me as chief anymore they just think I’m any other boy. I am the chief. No one treats me like I am. It is like my life back in England. I used to be just another ordinary boy but now I am chief. Everyone should listen to me but no one does. Especially the littluns, they are always wasting their time by playing around. They never help us and that really slows us down. They need to help us. Sam’n’eric are now helping hunting with Jack. They all painted their faces and circled around a pig. They thought the pig could see them so they painted their faces dark. It didn’t make much of a difference when they made a ring around the pig. It had no chance of escaping. It seems like they are going to become very caught up with hunting. You can already see the savage creeping out from under their skin. When my face is painted I hate it. It makes me feel dirty and filthy. Like Jack I feel dirty. I can’t believe what Jack and the hunters did today. We had a chance at rescue but Jack didn’t let Sam’n’eric watch the fire. He took them and the fire went out. A ship passed by and all Jack could think about was cutting a pig’s throat. He is very dumb. He always looks at people malevolently and is always mean. He is an annoying, blatant boy. I finally took charge of the boys again by showing them what would happen without order. I stood there as they realized. Without order there would be gouts of blood on the floor. War would break and every one would be hurt. There is only one balm for war. That is peace. Though there is a way to prevent it peace is the only option. It seems like most of the boys are impalpable but they all keep to themselves.

Chapter Title: Huts On The Beach
My Title: The True Hunter Emerges
Perspective: Jack (written the same night of the chapter)
Dear diary,
I think that Ralph and Simon are doing a good job because the huts are coming along really well. I also think that they could be spending their time better and hunting like me. We should all go on a hunting trip and bring back some meat for meals Even though it is important to have shelter from the so-called beastie and from rains we still need meals. My choirboys and I went out for a hunt while Simon and Ralph did their job making the huts. God knows where the fatty was; he was probably taking names or something. Everyone was acting inscrutable. No one carried out his own jobs because everyone was preoccupied. Another reason why jobs weren’t carried out is because Ralph and Simon were short handed. A majority of the kids were eating, bathing, or playing. That slowed things down a lot. They may have even come to a halt. I think that we have to find a really food resource. I know we can hunt but we still have to be stealthier. You can’t make a sound; you have to be able to hear the susurration of the jungle. We already have water and some shelter now we need a backup or reliable source of food. That stupid pig earlier today escaped. I have been having vicissitudes while hunting. I can’t kill! I had injured that pig if... if only I was one second faster it would have been ours to eat. The compulsion came over me to have a late night hunt. I got up and threw my opaque, leaf blanket away. I took my spear but then I remembered the beast. I lay back down and kept writing. Simon should help us hunt. He is a well-fit boy for the job. He is a medium sized boy and still has a younger looking face. Actually now that I think about it he wouldn’t fit. If we don’t get rescued soon we are all going to go crazy. I think that we will all lose order and split up. I think that Ralph and I not getting along maybe has something to do with all this. He is always sort of bossy and he doesn’t listen to me. He always thinks his ideas are the best and isn’t open to any new suggestions. That is why we haven’t gotten along much. Once he opens his mind to suggestion I hope we can get along.

Chapter Title: Fire On The Mountain
My Title: Playing With Fire
Perspective: Simon
Dear Diary,
I think that this island is a really good island except for the beast snake. If the beast weren’t on it, it would be great because there is food, shelter, and water. It is also really good because there are lots of ways to survive on this island. It is a snake-like beast and very big and scary according to the mulberry boy. The beastie symbolizes the islands scariness. It makes us sleep with one eye open knowing that a creature can come and take you in the middle of the night and no one would ever see you again. The beast makes me very scared because I don't want to die on this island. I think we should make a S.O.S. Ralph didn’t think it was a good idea but I finally induced him into thinking about it. Sign on the sand of the beach and burn it. It will attract attention from the sea and the air. I really would love to be rescued so I could sleep in my own bed and eat home cooked food. It would be my dream come true. If I am ever saved I will have a new appreciation for life.
When we started the fire it was barely anything. We tried containing the errant fire but it was no use. After it spread out Jack shouted out Ralph’s name in recrimination. Next time we have to start a controlled fire. The mulberry-marked boy was in the fire so far as we know. The ebullience of the fire was consuming the whole forest. We believe that sadly, he burned to death. I am different from all the other boys because I have a skill set all my own. I am very good at improvising on the spot when I need to. At night when we all go to sleep I always lie awake and stare into the sky. I tried to pinch someone’s coat because I was cold and couldn’t fall asleep. I never know what the next day has in store for me. I take life one day at a time. Also sometimes I hear the trees rustle but not from the wind. That made me very scared to go into the woods. I think it is the beastie the mulberry-marked kid was talking about but no one else is ever awake to hear it. I am scared of what the next day holds in store for us.

Lord Of The Flies Post 1
Chapter Title: The Sound of Shell
My Title: Gathering of The Survivors
Perspective: Piggy
When I woke up that morning I forgot where I was. All I remember from the day before was the plane crashing. Everything after that was a blur. I sat up and all I saw was a big area where all the trees were flattened. I thought that, that was where the plane crashed. I knew I was right when I turned around and saw the wreckage. I saw a boy with fair skin sleeping on the floor. I had never slept with my specs on until that night. I stood up and put on my tog. I pushed my specs up on to my nose and curled my hair behind my ears. The suffusion came back to my face 5 minutes after I woke up. I looked around and I was in the middle of the flattened trees. I looked at the site of the crash. The motif was the flattened trees for about a quarter of a mile. I woke up the boy and he was startled. I looked up to try and determine what time it was and I saw all the palm fronds swaying in the wind. He realized I was no threat and he then told me his name was Ralph. He got up and he took me to a beach and immediately I thought we were on an island. I told him my name and he sniggered nonstop for one minute. I can’t believe that in all the sea our flight crashed on an island. It must have been the pilots doing. The water was so blue and clear that it was like a heated pool, but salty. We found a conch and sounded it to gather the survivors if there were any. A whole group of boys came out of the shadows and we elected a chief. The chief was Ralph. Jack was the only other option but he wasn’t elected. He seemed mean and demanding so only his choir, because he was the head of the choir, voted for him. Simon was a boy who hasn’t quite told us about him. A question was raised to know if this was an island. Three boys went on an expedition to the highest point they could see and found out that it was an island. They saw a smaller island near the island that they were on. They haven’t come back yet but I have a feeling that we are on an island. Ralph had taken the conch with him because it represents him being leader. I feel that the conch is definitely a good way to govern us but I feel that I too should have some part in the government. After all I was the one who found the conch. I feel that the boys in the choir are not social enough but they will be very good hunters. I want Ralph to be leader because I have come to like him even though he is snobby. He also will make a good leader because he is smart and has good judgment. Overall Ralph is probably a better leader.
